The fight between the lion Parnell and a grizzly bear in Mexico near the Texas border
took place on April
The bear secured as the lion's antagonist is called Ramadam. He is a California silver
tipped grizzly and one of the largest of his kind. He has the record of having killed
two of his keepers in one day, and his fighting qualities are undeniable. Within the
ringwas erected a large circular steel cage, 15 feet high and 20 feet in diameter.
（中略）"For 33 minutes they fought continuously. After an unusually vicious attack made
by Parnell from the rear Ramadam suddenly turned, and with terrible ferocity seized the
lion between the shoulders, and shaking him as though ho had been a cat he raised him
intothe air and hurled the lion to the ground. Parnell's head struck the side of the cage,
and he was momentarily stunned and unable to arise for more than a minute. Once the lion
was floored, the bear turned and walked to the other side of the cage. After this the
fighting was tame and the contest was declared a draw.・
